Recommended Weight Distribution Shank for Taller Truck

Updated 04/27/2018 | Published 04/26/2018

Question:

Hi..I just bought a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 and hooked up my travel trailer with my existing equalizer hitches. When I had the trailer hooked up to my Ford Ranger, it pulled level. With the new truck, the hitch is too high and I cant lower it down any more. Is there an extender I can purchase to lwer the hitch down on my truck. The hitch on the truck is made by Husky if that makes any difference. I dont want to buy a new hitch if I can help it. Thanks in advance.

You don't need to purchase another hitch, but you will need to get a longer weight distribution shank for your system. I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17124 which will allow up to a 9 inch drop. Another option for your Equal-I-zer system is the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4300 for slightly less drop.

You can utilize other brand weight distribution shanks as they are almost all made with the same 3/8 inch hole diameter and 1-1/4 inch center on center measurement.
