Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution EQ90-02-4300 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank. This is designed for use with equalizer weight distribution system. It can be used in either the drop or rise position. It's constructed of a sturdy steel construction, and it's going to have a really nice clean welds on the unit. It is a solid shank design so nice solid piece. Overall, very strong and heavy duty design.

It has been dipped for corrosion resistance so it's going to do a great job resisting rust and corrosion. You can see here that we have a 6-hole adjustment design. The product's made right here in the USA. It's designed to slide inside of a 2 inch X 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. The maximum weight capacity is 14,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 1,400 pounds.

A few measurements that we want to go over with real quick . If we take a look at the overall length, measuring from back to front, it's going to give us an overall length of 12 inches. Also want to take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of bar right here. That's going to measure 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment hole is 8 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the very front of the unit's going to be 9 inches.

We're going to have about 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closet point of this back brace right here. When you're using this in the rise position with your head assembly at the highest setting, it's going to give you a maximum rise of about 10 inches from the top of the hitch receiver opening. If you flip it over to the drop position with the head assembly at the lowest setting, it's going to give you a maximum drop of about 6 inches. Again, we have 6 adjustment holes. Those are going to have whole diameter of 3/4 inch, and they're going to be separated apart from one another on center by an inch and quarter so that's going to be the incremental height adjustment. Again, overall, nice strong durable design and this is designed for the Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems. That's going to complete today's review of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank..

One of the welding spots looks like it was stopped short from the end? I think it’s okay. Thanks 703803

Comments
I sent the photos you included to my contact at Equal-i-zer. He said the shank has weld pockets that allow the weld to be mostly below the surface, so what is visible on the outside is not the only weld holding the shank together. He confirmed with his Quality Engineer that the welds are fine and the shank is safe to use.

I did not realize that I would need a longer shank when we switched tow vehicles, but the Nissan Armada receiver is actually higher than my GMC 2500HD. So much so that the 3" drop I was using didn't work. Fortunately eTrailer had this in stock and got it too me in 2 days (I had it expedited). It looks and works exactly like the Equalizer shank I had originally, but with a longer drop. 414359

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Shank for Taller Truck
You don't need to purchase another hitch, but you will need to get a longer weight distribution shank for your system. I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17124 which will allow up to a 7-1/2 inch drop. Another option for your Equal-I-zer system is the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4300 for slightly less drop. You can utilize other brand weight distribution shanks as they are almost all made with the same 3/8 inch hole diameter and 1-1/4 inch center on center...

  • Leveling and Weight Distribution for a Truck with Camper Pulling a Trailer
Prior to purchase, I want to recommend a few things to double check before purchasing your kit. First, you'll check with your trailer manufacturer to be sure that your trailer is approved for use with a weight distribution system. Some trailers, especially aluminum ones, can be too weak to stand up against the forces applied by a distribution system and can fail. You'll also verify that your extension and hitch are rated for use with weight distribution systems. Next, you'll...

I linked a helpful article that explains how to measure to find the ball mount/shank with the correct amount of drop. I also contacted Jayco to see if they could tell me the coupler height on the JayFeather 22RB with its standard tire size. • Weight Distribution System Recommendation For A 2018 Chevy Colorado Pulling A 4,147lbTravel Trailer
I would recommend a weight distribution system for this application. You will notice in many towing situations that vehicles sag in the rear under the downward force of the trailer coupler. This can cause lift to the front of the vehicle and that increases the chance of sway and lessens towing safety. If the 4147lbs is the dry weight of your travel trailer, that's a good start but you will need to know your fully loaded, ready to tow weight if you don't have that. A scale like the...

  • Weight Distribution System Drop for a 2018 Ram 2500 Pulling a 2017 Forest River Sonoma Trailer
To determine if the drop of Equalizer's standard shank is sufficient for your tow vehicle and trailer combination, you need to measure from the ground to bottom of the coupler. Then do the same from the ground to the top of the receiver on your Ram 2500. If your hitch height is greater than your coupler by more than 3 inches, a larger shank is needed. The Equalizer adjustable shank that comes with # EQ37120ET has a maximum rise of 7 inches and a maximum drop of 3 inches. An adjustable...

Yes, if you have a lifted truck then you would want to purchase the weight distribution system and shank separately as this will then allow you to obtain a shank that has the correct amount of drop for your truck without having to purchase an extra one. The sway control on this system is the only style on the market that actively works to prevent sway before it starts. This system is fully compatible with surge brakes and works with trailer TW up to 1200-lbs. The shank provides adjustable rise up to 10-inches. The system includes a 2-5/16-inch hitch ball. Installing an anti-sway bar on your 2018 Ford F-150 is not going to do much of anything for trailer sway as trailer sway starts on the trailer, not the truck. In order to hammer down what is causing the trailer to sway I first need to know which Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System you have. It's really going to depend on how far out of level you are. If you're within an inch or two of level, especially if it's nose-high, you'll be just fine. Turning off the auto-leveling system is not a bad ideal, if it keeps the rear of the vehicle at the correct ride height so the trailer tows level, or nearly level.
