Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2018 Jayco Flight 26BH Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2017 F150 3.5 6cyl 7600 lb towing capacity. I just purchased a 2018 Jayco Flight 26BH travel trailer with a dry weight of 4900 lbs. What would the tongue weight be and which sway bar kit would you recommend. I’ll be doing long distance traveling. Thanks

When choosing the best weight distribution system for your setup, the most important factor to consider is your total tongue weight. This number will include both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer (as if it is loaded and ready for a trip), along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150. Ideally, this number will fall somewhere near the middle of the operating range for the weight distribution system you choose.
Using a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 is the most accurate method for determining your trailer's loaded tongue weight. In the meantime, though, we can calculate an educated estimate based on some information for your 2018 Jayco Flight 26BH. You mentioned that the trailer has a dry weight of 4,900 pounds, but we will want to use its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which I found in my research to be 7,000 pounds. This is the most the trailer can weigh when it is loaded up with all your things and ready for travel. A trailer's tongue weight should be 10 to 15 percent of its total weight, so we can calculate an estimated loaded tongue weight of 700 to 1,050 pounds.
With this in mind, the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66084 that you were looking at should work very nicely. This system features a tongue weight capacity of 600 to 1,200 pounds and will do a great job of evenly distributing weight over the axles of your F-150 and trailer. It features self-centering sway control that will work to hold the trailer steady during crosswinds, sudden swerving and cornering.
The only thing you would need to add to this system is a compatible hitch ball, such as the 2 inch # A-90 or the 2-5/16 inch # 19286.
I have attached a video demonstration on this system that you can take a look at, along with an excellent FAQ on weight distribution systems that you might also find helpful.
