The Kat's Heaters Custom Engine Block Heater part # KH11409 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Mazda 3 with either the 2.0L I4 or 2.5L I4 engine. The correct location in which the heater will need to be installed is on the driver's side of the engine in the lower left hand corner shown as "RL" in the attached photo. You will need to first remove the factory frost plug in order to install the element.
Don't forget the Kat's Heaters Plug Cover for Power Cords with 3-Prong Plugs part # KH28405 to cover the plug while not in use.
