Curt Sway Tab Weld On Position For Ball Mount and Friction Sway Control # 83660

Question:

Just receive my order and need to know Which is the correct position to weld the sway tab to the ball mount? - Reese sway control kit PN 83660 has drawing that shows sway tab welded such that sway ball is 1 3/8” forward of tow ball - curt sway tab PN 45822 has drawing that shows sway tab welded where sway ball would be even with tow ball Which is correct? Or are they both acceptable?

Helpful Expert Reply:

You will want to mount the tab # C45822 to work with the sway bar you are using. I recommend following the Pro Series instructions of # 83660 for best function since that is the friction sway bar you are utilizing. I've also included the diagram to help with the location of the tab for both width and depth so you will also want to ensure it is 5-1/2 inches on center from ball to ball.

Can it be farther than 5 1/2 inches from hitch ball? If so what is the max in between the two balls?

@Ben I would say you really gotta make sure you stick around 5-1/2 inches. Any more than that and it would probably bend the unit and break it around tighter corners.
