Items Needed to Tow a Catalina 22 ft Sailboat
Question:
I have a 1991 Toyota Previa 2 wheel drive LE van and found the correct hitch to to a 3,500 pound Catalina 22 foot long sailboat. But, I dont know what the other choice is regarding the 1.25 inch, 2 inch or the third choice. In other words, I do not know enough to complete the order. I need the class 2 hitch, the wiring harness for the Toyota Previa, and the standard thing the ball hitch sits in, the square shaped thing.

The strongest trailer hitch that we have that is confirmed to fit the 1991 Toyota Previa is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Custom Fit Class II - 1-1/4" # C12304. It has a Tongue Weight up to 300 pounds and up to 3500 pound Gross Towing Weight.
The Curt Class II Drawbar # C45521 is what you need to go into the trailer hitch receiver to tow the trailer. Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 800B comes with 1 7/8 and 2" balls with a 3/4 diameter shank and has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 lbs.
Next you need a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your Toyota Previa to power your trailer's signal lights. The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # C59236 is recommended. It ensures that your Toyota Previa's wiring matches that of your trailer and connects directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system.
If your trailer has brakes, you also need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Wires Item # ETBC7 to properly wire your vehicle. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is recommended to control the brakes on your boat trailer. This brake controller activates trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of tow vehicle and activates immediately with no pausing like with time-delayed brake controllers.
I have also attached help guides and videos to this help article. Make sure that when you weigh your boat it is fully loaded on the trailer and ready to tow to get the true weight. Also, check with your vehicle's owner's manual for the true towing specifications. Use the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 to get an accurate weight.
