Brake Controller Not Getting Power on a 2010 Ford E350 Van
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
To whom it may concern I purchased part number 3034-P wiring harness. I plugged in the harness and wired it to my Tekonsha brake controller. The problem is the controller has no power to it. The question is is there a power wire under the dash that needs to be wired to the fuse panel and where would I find this wire if there is one? I looked all over and I cant locate it if there is one. Your expertise would be most helpful! Also the trailer wiring harness at the back end on along the frame rail there is a male connector. I assumed its for the seven way spade connector, can you confirm this. There is an attachment which has the picture. Best Regards

The first place that I recommend checking when you lose power to something would be your fuse box. A blown fuse can cause the power to not reach your brake controller. If your fuses look okay then it might be easier to find a wire that is connected to your battery and trace it back to your brake controller. If you can find the right wire this way, then you can check for any signs of corrosion, exposed, or damaged wiring.
As for the connector in the picture that you sent, there are no wiring harnesses that connect that connector to a 7-Way. You can test the individual functions of that harness with the Quickee Circuit Tester # PTW2992 to find out what it powers. For a wiring harness that plugs into a factory 7-Way tow package on your 2010 Ford E350 Van, you will want the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118261. This is meant to plug into a connector towards the rear of your Van and provide you a 7-Way connector at your rear bumper.
Otherwise you will need to add the wiring yourself. If you have a 2 wire system which combines the stop signal with either turn signal then you will just need to use the Curt Wiring Harness # C56020. If you have the 3 wire system that runs the stop, right turn, and left turn signals separately, then you will need to use the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118551. This will combine your stop signal with your right turn, and also with your left turn, which is the wiring configuration that trailer use.
If you had to go with either of the 4-Way connectors and you would like to have a 7-Way harness at the rear of your Ford, then you will want to use the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will give you a fully-functioning 7-Way and 4-Way Wiring Harnesses at the rear bumper of your E350. You can use a No-Drill Mount Bracket # C57202 to keep from having to drill into your trailer hitch receiver during installation. If you need extra wiring to run the power and brake signal to your 7-Way you can use the Deka Jacketed 2 Wire # 10-2-1 to do so.
I have attached some demonstration videos for you to review as well.
