The best place to confirm your truck's towing capacity is in your owner's manual. The base 2012 F-150 is rated for a 5000-lb towing capacity unless equipped with the heavy-duty trailer towing package. Higher towing ratings may apply depending on whether you have 2WD or 4WD and depending on your truck's wheelbase. I suggest you check pages 272 and 273 of your owner's manual to find your exact towing capacity based on your specific truck's mix of equipment. Please see the linked image taken from the online manual on the Ford website. If you are unsure of any of those details your local Ford dealer can look up the truck's VIN to confirm how it is equipped.
Hitch receivers for your truck are 2-inch Class III and Class IV types like # 75691 and # C14002 which fits trucks without a factory hitch. The hitches we offer have varying weight capacities and if the truck is rated lower than the hitch, then that lower rating applies. Always go by the rating of the lowest-rated part in the towing system.
The 5th wheel hitch system that will give you the best access to the bed when you're not towing is the B&W slider hitch # BWRVK3400-5W and under-bed gooseneck install kit # BWGNRK1104-5W. This system lets you tow both 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers and the 5th wheel can be pulled out of the bed when you need the bed for cargo. For a 5th wheel wiring harness you can use # PK11893-11932.
