Transmission & Oil Coolers for 2015 Ford Explorer

Updated 08/06/2024 | Published 06/16/2016

Question:

I am looking to add the parts necessary to match the factory tow package for Ford Explorer 52T. Per the Ford, I need to add the Reciever, Wire Harness and Engine Oil Cooler. I have the reciever DrawTite and harness. My question is what is the Engine Oil Cooler that woudl meet this requirement? Is it a Trans Oil Cooler or a Engine Oil cooler? I see both parts. Thanks.

To get your 2015 Ford Explorer ready for towing you can add both a transmission cooler and an oil cooler if you want. We offer individual coolers that can handle either oil or transmission fluid, and also 2-core combination coolers that can handle both.

For an efficient Class III transmission cooler I recommend Derale's kit # D13503. I linked an installation video showing this being installed in an Explorer. You'll install this cooler on the transmission's existing return line where it will provide secondary cooling of your transmission fluid.

For a Class V oil cooler you can use Derale kit # D15405 which will lower your oil temperature up to 50-degrees.

I also linked two articles on coolers that may interest you.

I have a situation where i am a disabled vet in wheelchair, we bought a 2017 v6 explorer xlt assuming it would handle a wheelchair, VA said they wouldnt put carrier on after market hitch????? Said it had to be factory spec hitch what does that mean? And if that means a cooler is it trans oil cooler or engine oil cooler? And if so any idea what they cost as they(va) will not do that part, thanks in advance Matt

@Matt That would mean in your case it would have to be a Ford hitch installed on your Explorer. That is a really odd stipulation.
