Question:
Now that I think about it, my trailer uses the seven pin plug but does not have brakes so all I really need is a harness for the flat plug and swap the plug on the trailer. Which harness should I order for the standard flat plug on my car without the trailer package?

To install a 7-Way connector on your 2015 Ford Explorer, you can use the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118272. This will plug right into the existing port under the Explorer on the passenger side. If your Explorer did not include the factory tow package, it's possible that all the functions on the 7-Way will not work.
In order to determine if this will be the case, you can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the pins on the existing harness where the T-connector will plug in. If there is no constant 12 volt circuit then you will only have the basic light functions active once the 7-Way is installed.
If your Explorer does not have the factory tow package, a better solution will be to first install a 4-Way connector with the Tekonsha # 118540, then use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to convert it to a fully functional 7-Way connector. I have attached an article the details the installation steps for this kit that you might find helpful.
