Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ford van we're going to be taking a look at the roof rack by Yakima and that's going to be consisting of part numbers Y00410 and that's going to be for the crossbars and part number Y00101 and that's going to be for the rain gutter towers. Here's where our Yakima roof rack looks like installed. This is going to be great to free up space inside of our van and put our gear and cargo up top.Our roof rack is going to feature round bars which is going to greatly reduce wind noise and drag compared to traditional square bars. The distance between our bars is going to be determined by what we're trying to mount. Really anywhere that there's the rain gutter on the outside edge of our vehicle, we're going to be able to mount it because that's how these towers mount. Our roof rack system is going to have a weight capacity of 165 pounds but you always want to double check to make sure that you roof can handle that amount of weight. Our crossbars are going to slide into the clamp right here and then our towers are going to go directly onto our rain guard.
Now one thing we don't have to worry about is any scratches or anything like that because we're going to have a nice rubber boot that's going to go around half of it and then the second half that's going to come around and clamp onto it has a nice rubberized coating. One thing I do like is on the end of our end cap here this plastic core can be replaced with a metal lock core so once we have our roof rack system in place we can actually lock it and keep everything nice and secure. Because the roof does have a natural curve to it I'll go ahead and take the measurement right here at the gutter and our cross bars are going to come in right about 7-1/4 inches tall. The bars themselves are going to be 66 inches long which means we have plenty of real estate to add any accessories we want. Now that we've seen what our bars look like, I'll go over some of the features that show you how to get them installed. We already have our first crossbar installed.
Let's go ahead and put the second one on together. First thing we're going to do is take our rain gutter towers and we're going to have some rubber strips in our packaging and that's going to need to slide over the bottom of this piece right here. Take the open end, slide it around the corner here and we're actually going to take this end and stretch it over to the other side and slip it into place. You're going to want to do that for both towers. Now if we look at the back of our tower, we're going to see that we're going to have a bolt that's holding this piece in. We're going to want to make sure that it's nice and loose and if it's not already loose we're going to take the provided wrench and we're going to loosen it up.
You don't want to take the bolt all the way out, you just want to loosen it up so it can move freely and it's not going to interfere when we go to put the crossbar in. You're also going to want to do that with both your towers. Now, if we find our crossbar, we're going to notice that it's going to fit right in so we're going to take our tower and we're going to slide the bar through the foot pack right there until we can get it on all the way. You realize you can't get it in or it's taking a little bit too much effort, you might need to loosen that screw a little more.Whenever you slide your rain gutter tower onto the bar. You're going to want to make sure that this section oval section here is facing outward where you can see the Yakima right here.
Now that we have this one, we're going to do the same thing on the other side. Now, on the end of the bar here they do come with some end caps so I'm going to go ahead and we can push it into place. Now we have this one on, we're going to put the other one on as well. Now, it's always a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you put this in place that way you don't have to worry about scratching your roof. The section that we put that rubber sleeve on needs to go on the inside of our rain guard here and this clamp needs go around the bottom of our rain guard. Now that we have both of those in place, we're going to go ahead and tighten up that bolt on the bottom that we loosened up to get our bar in place. We're going to want to pull back making sure that this piece is right against our rain gutter right here on both sides. To make sure our bars are square you're going to want to pick a reference point to measure to the rear crossbar. We use our front bars and measured the distance to our rear bar. Now, the spread is going to be determined by the accessories you choose to mount. There's no exact number or any specific location you have to mount it. With our bars in place we can go ahead and take the included wrench again and tighten up that nut on the bottom of the tower. You want to make sure that you keep the tower vertical and that it doesn't lean in and hit the roof of the vehicle. We're going to go ahead and tighten the other side as well. Now at the end here we're going to find our end cap with the screw coming out. There's going to be a threaded hole right in the middle so we're going to insert it in and you're going to want to tighten it down. The only thing I want to mention is you don't want to over tighten it. Just want to get it nice and snug. Go ahead and tighten it up and that's actually going to tighten up that bottom clamp here and keep our foot pack attached to our rain gutter. Once we get it nice and snug, we can put the other one in as well. That will finish up our look at the roof rack by Yakima on our 2014 Ford van.

I should have ordered the J racks from here but I found them cheaper locally so Thule J racks compliment the whole setup and i am just about ready to hit the water :)
As always E trailer handled my order extremely well. Kept me updated on shipping also. Very professional!
Thank again, etrailer. You always have what I’m looking for. I already had the bars, but I needed the towers.
etrailer never disappoints! Every product I need, I check that etrailer has it before purchasing anywhere else. Thank you for the excellent service, the fast delivery, and the email updates on order status.
should come with end caps.
Fits awesome on my 2016 jeep unlimited. Some wind noise but not a problem.
The yellow pads on the crossbars are pool noodles secured by zip ties. They provide padding for a third or even a fourth kayak.
Fit the 79 Dodge van perfectly
Yakima stuff is pretty good. If it were not so over priced (and this retailer gave the best deal) I'd rate it 4 stars. However, I know from past experience that Yakima bars, despite coating on the current bars that is significantly thinner than older bars, will rust if used near water. They sell this stuff for water sports! And then act surprised that it rusts. Since I have a lot of their stuff and old rusty bars I bought these as a replacement despite my misgivings.
The foregoing is NOT a criticism of this vendor who sold the stuff at a good price compared to what Yakima wants and delivered it promptly
These extra long round bars have been awesome. They allow us to carry 2 17ft long canoes on our car or a skybox and a canoe. They poles are sturdy and allow for plenty of storage.
My only recommendation would be to add a wind breaker because the bars are the least arrow dynamic and make noise over 65mph.
So far so good. Have had hitch for a year and it’s a game changer. Can reveal it quickly and throw on a bike rack to carry 4 bikes including an ebike. Amazes me that it’s so solid. But it is. And invisible when not in use
I bought a new bottom plastic panel for my Tesla model 3 from Tesla.
The crossbars are outstanding they are working perfectly with the towers I had to buy for my Honda odyssey roof rack I forgot the name of them I have my YAKIMA space Cadet rocket box on top of the bars in addition to my YAKIMA ski racks
I chose the Yakima A1 raingutter towers for mounting a 96" Yakima crossbar for my Humvee wildfire rig rooftop gear rack. The towers are sturdy and able to handle the constant jarring expected in wild land fire fighting in rugged terrain.
These Yakima towers just work. They go on easily and stay tight. No issues whatsoever. They are a little pricey, but it's nice to have something that just works well without any drama.
The Yakima bars I used for the roof rack system on my truck are great. Now, combined with the rack system on my topper shell, I have the length to support long objects like long boards, boxes of siding or ladders. However, it is the fantastic customer service from etrailer.com that will have me going to them the next time I need items for my truck. I tried to order this rack system from a competitor and waited 4 months before they finally just gave up and cancelled my order. One call to etrailer.com customer service and I had the complete rack system I needed in less than three weeks. The representative I spoke with spent over an hour helping me identify the items I needed. That is the kind of service I will not forget.
Awesome Company!
In the time of COVID doing business with this company was a great experience. I was kept informed by email by their CSR team as to when they would ship product and when it would arrive. Worked like a champ. Product fit my 1974 VW Baja as promised and now I can finally add the much needed Roof Rack System.
Thanks etrailer for being there and taking such care of your customers.

Yakima rack arrived a day earlier than expected. All the parts were there instructions were clear took about half hour to install. The rack is a little noisy at highway speed. Darn, guess I'll have to take the back roads! Thumbs up to both etrailer and Yakima.
I have used Yakima products for decades and never have had issues. Even now I still trust them thus still purchase their products. This was for a gift so spreading the product name and trust.
I received the Rain gutter riser, 66' round bars, boat loader and SKS lock cores all well packaged and in good shape. These are for a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon. The products were easy to install and will work great for loading and transporting my Hobie Outfitter Kayak. The Outfitter is a heavy kayak at 75 lbs unloaded. The Yakama Boat loader makes it easy for one person to load and unload the kayak. The rain gutter mounts and round bars securely hold the kayak for transportation. When not transporting the kayak the whole system quickly removes.
A big plus with ordering through etrailer is the excellent custom service, they will be my go to for future orders.
These shipped very quickly and fit great. While I couldn’t get the bars I wanted until August, I was able to get them elsewhere. Thanks for your help. Would have been 5 starts had I been able to get everything from etrailer
Did an excellent job guys. The Yakima towers arrived on time and in good shape. Mounted right up to the canopy clips, installed the existing bars, kayak racks, and lock cores without any issues. All is ship-shape now. Will definitely come back to you guys again.
Thanks!
One of the few retailers with these in-stock, they arrived in time to get my racks up and running.
Been using Yakima products for decades. First use as a teen on a 1974 Chrysler Newport for a canoe. Still buying their products. Handing down canoe with Yakima racks for their vehicle. Why change a good combination?
the part is what it is. all prices are similar online. What sets etrailer apart is the customer service. you call and you get an empowered, cheery, competent individual. I had two cancellations I did (not their fault) and they handled both quickly, easily, and with a cheerful disposition. Excellent customer service.
