TracRac Base Rails

TracRac SR Sliding Rack Base Rails

The TracRac base rails provide the foundation for this unique, customizable system. No-drill, stake-pocket installation yields securely mounted rails that sit atop your factory side rails. Each rail has 2 tracks for maximum adjustability.

TracRac Sliding Rack

Because the rack section at the front of your truck bed mounts to a different T-track than the one in the rear, the sections can be moved so that they are right next to each other. The result is unobstructed access to your truck bed and improved aerodynamics when you are not using the rack.

TracRac offers accessories that are designed to mount in these tracks. Base rail tie-downs (sold separately) give you additional cargo-management options. These rustproof, aluminum tie-downs slide across the rails for optimal placement and are secured in place with the turn of a knob.

Cantilever Over-the-Cab Extension

TracRac Cantilever Over-the-Cab Extension

Included with your TracRac system is the cantilever extension, which attaches to the front crossbar to provide 32" of additional length over the cab of your vehicle. With this extension piece mounted you can carry long loads safely and easily. The crossbar of the cantilever extension is constructed in the same fashion as the other TracRac crossbars so that you get the same sturdy, aerodynamic styling throughout.

TracRac Slotted Crossbars

The sturdy aluminum crossbars on all TracRac truck racks feature integrated slots for mounting and easily adjusting accessories, such as the included load stops. These slots appear on both the top and bottom of the bars for the ultimate in mounting versatility. Like the pieces that mount in the base rails, these accessories also have quick-release knobs that let you loosen and tighten them with a mere twist of a knob so that they can be positioned as needed along the bars.

A built-in trip strip at the front of each crossbar shields the slots from wind, maintaining the aerodynamic quality of the bars and preventing that annoying whistle you often find with slotted bars.

Included Tie-Downs

TracRac Load Stop Accessories

Included with your TracRac SR are 8 tie-down accessories. The 4 load stops are designed to mount in the slots of the crossbars and slide along them for quick, easy adjustment. These bookend-style pieces help to hold ladders and lumber in place on the crossbars. They also have built-in loops for securing tie-down straps.

TracRac ARC Side Cleats

The 4 cleats attach at any of the provided mounting points along the outsides of the upright supports so that you can tie down items that require additional anchoring or that sit in your truck bed.

Sturdy, Rustproof Construction

The TracRac base rails and rack system, as well as most TracRac accessories, are constructed of durable, lightweight aluminum. Because aluminum is lighter than steel - the material most often used for truck racks - only a small percentage of your truck's cargo capacity is taken up by the rack itself, enabling you to pack on more weight than you could with a steel system.

Even though aluminum is already rustproof in itself, TracRac has taken the extra step of adding a dual powder coat finish to further protect your rack. The electrostatic powder coat (e-coat) clings to the metal surface better than traditional paint finishes for a more durable covering. The second coat is a clear finish that adds extra shine and protection from scuffs and scratches.

Video Transcript for Thule TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Rack with Cantilever Review

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the line of Thule Trac Rac SR Sliding Ladder racks with cantilevers. When it comes to ladder racks, there's a ton of different choices available on the market. You're going to want to pick one that works best for you. You really can't go wrong with the Thule and that's because it's going to be able to handle just about anything you want to throw at it. Part of the reasoning is this cantilever here.

This is going to extend over your truck's roof and give you 32 more inches of real estate. Not only can you haul more stuff up here but longer or even larger items. For example, you can see our very long ladder extends well over the roof, and it really gives it a lot more support. It makes everything a lot safer, as opposed to a ladder rack that didn't have this cantilever. This would be extending all the way over the roof. I want to have that support there.

This would be bouncing around, creating a disturbance and just overall isn't really desirable. What is really awesome too, this is going to have a super high weight capacity. It's really going to take a lot to max it out. If you're using just the rear and front crossbar here, the weight capacity is going to be 1,250 pounds. However, if your cargo extends all the way to the front, very front crossbar where the cantilever is, that weight capacity is going to go down to 1000 pounds.

With that being said, that's still a very impressive number. It would really take a lot of stuff up here to even come close to maxing that out.One of the really big things that separate this kit from many of the others is whenever we're not using our ladder rack, we can actually slide this back one, all the way up to the front. That's going to allow us to have full bed access. Say, if you want to put in some taller objects, we're not going to have to work around our ladder rack. With that being said, we'll get to that in a minute and I'll show you how that works.

First, let's talk about some of the other smaller features here that make this thing pretty neat. A lot of the times, whenever you put on a ladder rack, you lose a lot of your tie-down points and that's not the case of this one. Thule actually put in these really nice anchors here, and it gives you a lot of different options as far as what you can use to secure down your cargo.Even up top, we're going to have a little load lock. These are adjustable by turning a knob. You can space them out or push them close together. That's going to give you a nice little stopper there to prevent your cargo from shifting side to side. It's just one extra little thing to keep everything nice and secure. These crossbars actually utilize a T channel. Thule does make different types of accessories that will work with this. It really gives you a ton of different options on what you can use your ladder rack for say, if you want to use it for work, hauling around your ladders and whatnot through the week, but maybe on the weekend, you want to get out maybe a kayak or something like that and throw it up here as well. You're able to use this one ladder rack to get everything done.As promised here's my favorite part about this ladder rack. Once you have your cargo off and you need to free up this room, you can loosen up your knobs here and then just push this all the way towards the front. If you have a real short ladder or something like that, and want to utilize half your bed, you can lock this down wherever you want. It's really convenient. Let's say for our sake, we need to get something tall on the bed of our truck, slide it all the way forward, lock it back down, you're going to have a ton of space back here to allow us to get whatever we might need, in and out without any interference. You're not going to have to worry about pushing these too far towards the front of the truck and hitting your cab because there are a little bump stops here. That'll stop you from having an accident. What's really cool about this setup to, is that it's made from aluminum. It's going to be really lightweight and manageable and better yet, we're not going to have to worry about it rusting out. It's really going to last a long time. You get a lot of use out of it. It's going to have a dual stage powder coat finish. It's really going to do a great job at keeping everything protected and looking good. Honestly, I think it would take a lot to beat this thing up. Should stay looking good and lasting for a very long time. In case you we're wondering, the length of our crossbars are going to be 69 and a half inches, which in my opinion is about the perfect size. It's going to extend pretty much the entire length of the bed on most late model pickup trucks. Now, something you need to think about to, is whenever we add anything to our roof or above our vehicle, we are going to get a little bit of wind noise, especially at higher speeds on the highway. Our crossbars are going to be cutting through the wind. Well, what helps reduce that noise is the elliptical shape, so they're going to be a little bit more aerodynamic and help keep things quiet. One of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to this ladder rack system is, if you're going to be able to use a tonneau cover with it. Well, some tonneau covers will work and others won't. The way you can kind of find that out is, if the tonneau cover actually gets secured to the inside of your bed, I would say, chances are pretty good it'll probably work out.I can't be certain for every single one of them, but there is a couple that I do know work for sure. We've had them in the shop with this tonneau cover and this ladder rack combination. The two that we do know work is the Bak Revolver X2 and X4. If you're looking to keep your stuff inside of your bed protected and still have a ladder rack, that's a great choice to go to. Our base rails here are going to get installed on top of our bed rails, and they're going to utilize the stake pockets to secure them. What's nice about that is, there's no drilling or anything required, but we have had some customers wonder how strong that really is because, it's just a rubber block that is attached to a bolt that goes down into that stake pocket.I can understand that concern. You might think it doesn't do a good job at keeping everything tight, but it actually works out really well. Just to show you, I'll grab the end here, right where it is secured. If I pull up on it as hard as I can, it doesn't even budge. With that in mind, I don't see it giving me any issues as far as getting loose or having any problems down the road. At the end of the day an awesome ladder rack, that's going to be able to handle just about anything you want to throw at it. It's going to be super versatile. Whether you want to use it for work or play, it's going to get the job done. That'll finish up our look at, of the line of Thule Trac Rac SR sliding ladder racks with cantilevers.

Pretty good ladder rack. I like having the ability to slide the racks if needed. The install is doable. If you are installing the cantilever, make sure you swap out the top mount before assembling the top bar. The legs come pre-assembled with the regular top mount from the factory. The regular top mount has to be removed and the cantilever top mount installed to assemble the cantilever part of the ladder rack. Also, the bolts that hold the top mount on have loctite on them from the factory and are really hard to remove. I ended up stripping the bolts out. etrailer was very helpful and sent me a replacement hardware kit with all the bolts needed to finish the install. Between the directions provided and a few YouTube videos, the install was pretty straightforward. I am very happy with the product overall.

This is an awesome system, and in my opinion, the best option to pair with the Retrax ProMX bed cover. The sliding rails for adjustable distance is awesome. Can't beat the versatility of this rack, and after adding additional load stops for cantilever rail, bolt on ratchet straps, and base rail tie down points (which will actually allow me to haul things on top of my bed cover, which is rated to carry 500lbs) this system completely changes my ability to haul whatever I need in my truck.

I bought these for my 2018 Ford F 150 5.5foot bed.
These are definitely one of the more expensive ladder racks you can buy but totally worth it. Very high quality and easy to install. I bought these for the ease of removal.
I use etrailer.com for all my vehicle needs.

The TH43002XT-781EX installed onto my 2016 GMC 2500 HD Sierra 6-1/2 bed Denali pickup truck without drilling any holes. Total install time including the cantilever took about 2 1/2 hours with two people. The tools we used included a wide range of metric hex keys, a crescent and some metric open-endeds.

The base rails mounted to the bed rails using a threaded aluminum insert for the rear stake pockets (which align with a thru-hole already present in the bed) and an expanding rubber bushing for the front stake pockets (since the front pockets don't have a thru-hole). Evidently some pickup rails cant to one side or another so the base rail install kit includes shims but my truck did not require them.

Once installed the rails are rock solid and subsequently the racks are also rock solid. The cantilever comes with replacement saddles that mount up to the rack with a total of 12 bolts making the ensemble nearly missile proof. Almost all bolts are pre-treated with thread locker.

My truck already has knobby tires so I did not notice any particular additional wind noise.

My plan for the TracRac is to attach a custom mounted Rhino-Rack, which we'll be doing ourselves.

I like this product because the fitment on etrailer was reliable and I did not have to drill any holes or use any special tools. The rack is also ridiculously heavy duty, which is more than up to the job of holding the Rhino-Rack I'm going to custom fit to it. We'll be doing some off-roading so this heavy equipment gives me a lot of confidence.

Thule always makes great products and I am delighted with the TracRac and I'm very happy with etrailer's site.

by:

The rack system is very well put together. I only had a couple of issues with the instalation.
There wasn't any directions with the base rails, so it took a bit to figure out how it went together and what holes to use for my truck.
The canteilever kit, The top bolt that holds the cross bar should be a button screw and square nut, not a square head bolt and nut. with the square head bolt and nut it could interfere with a long load since it sticks up and could catch on anything being loaded . All and all a nice rack.
I got this type of rack hoping that I could slide the rear post forward as to not interfere with my 5th wheel when towing it.
That part is yet to be dedurmined.

by:

It has been a very useful, well built, well designed product for my truck.
I utilized it for a move from the Bay Area to the central coast. I made numerous loads. Without it, I would not have been able to transport all of my ladders, lumber and other long bulky materials.
I leave it on my truck and use the multiple tie downs.
This has been one of the best purchases I’ve made and have no regrets.

by:

Product is great and installed easily once I figured out that for my Ram 1500 Laramie, the pocket stakes are too big for the rubber blocks and won't work and I did have to drill thru the plastic molding. Once I figured out the stake holes wouldn't work I looked at the drawing again and the holes where Tundra is listed gave me the idea to try those. Those holes worked on the Ram and I ended up drilling out the "spikes" that hold the molding onto the sheet metal. No drilling thru the sheet metal was required, only the plastic.

Maybe I missed an install video for the Ram, it would have made the install much quicker and I wouldn't have to buy covers for my now cut out front stake pocket holes which weren't covered by the rails as I hoped they would.

I haven't installed the cantilever as I don't need it yet.

Customer service was excellent. With Tiffini's help and Georges and Carol's updates this was a smooth purchase. Tiffini's help in sending links to me with the correct part choices for my truck was extremely valuable and saved me a lot of time.

I ordered the TracRac SR (sliding rack) for my 2019 Ram 3500. It took a while to get here, probably due to the current situation weall in. It came in 3 boxes on 2 days. (Just so you know what you'll be looking for) everything was packaged very secure in the boxes. I order the Cantilever with mine, so I had to swap out a couple parts. No big deal. Everything was explained in the instructions. It took me about 3 hours to install. The hardest part was getting the bed rails to align. I got them within 1/16th of an inch. Good enough.
The rack is a great addition to the truck. I stepped down from an 8ft bed to this 6ft 4in bed. So this was a necessity. The rack is solid. I'll be putting it to work right away

by:

Great service and fast shipping and handling. Melissa T. Was very helpful finding answers to compatibility questions with other components. Site has great video reviews on their products. Definitely recommend them!… Best prices too.

We are a Ford dealership. This rack was ordered for a customer to give as a gift. It was installed here and customer was happy with the product.

Love this new rack. I upgraded from a cheap Amazon one. even more happy with support from etrailer. ive been trying to install in small windows of time with a lot goin on and made a few mistakes was helped everytime thanks Amy and angela

by:

Nice rack! I've surely put to the test. My best this year was $3500 worth of azek of course with help from a couple 2x12x24 kd for the spread. Sketchy but did the job. Also carries all my staging, pix, ect... I'm happy with it.

by:

Shipping was quick As described Easy to assemble. Wish the kit had one set of directions so I wouldn't have had to take the front rack apart after the fact. The final bolts for the canteleaver seem to be a damage/ scratch hazard.
Looks pretty slick though.

by:

I purchased the front rack with the cantilever over hang, toolbox track kit and rear rack and locking knobs.
Very happy with the final product.
Thanks.

by:

Great product, super easy install. No drill application is wonderful and fast so I can put it to work to pay for itself, less than 2 hr installation.

by:

Perfect for my truck and what I needed. It's easy to take off the rack when not using it. It doesn't impede my roll-up tonneau cover. It's strong. I like the cab over as I load a long canoe on the rack and it protects the roof of my F350.

by:

This has been one high quality truck rack. It went together reasonably well, has carried a variety of work and recreational loads for me around town and on the hwy. The design is very strong and flexible on my 6ft box and I love being able to slide rails forward or off based on access and truck load needs. It has also has very little road noise and fit reasonably well with my existing tanneau cover.

I had one tighten down knob break on impact (my fault and easily replaced at the hardware store) and my only product concern has to do with the sticky style leveling/mounting shims which have all but wiggled loose at this point. I will soon need to place some more permanent shims that can be anchored to the underside of the rails or on to my truck or something. It looks like I will have this for many more years.

by:

All trucks made in the last 10 years have varying width beds. The installation instructions state that the sliding rail bases must be exactly the same width along the trucks bed rails. This is impossible to do without having them extend over the rear bed rails, and the front rails extending inside the bed rails. My Chevy truck has a 2" differential in bed width at the front and rear. TracRac needs to take these dimensions into consideration when designing the next version of the sliding rail kit. Instead of drilling a ton of holes in the rails at the factory, let us drill our own, so we can line up the rails as we see fit. It would also be nice if you would design the bottom of the inside-front rails to include a recessed notch for us guys that have roll n lock bed covers. Then we could set the rails on top of the roll-n-lock cover, thus allowing better rail alignment, down the truck rails.

by:

I ordered, received and installed the trakrack ladder rack with cab extension. Etrailer I highly recommend as their service is excellent. I always buy from them. Since this product is aluminum, I did have a problem with some screws getting stripped but Etrailer fixed the problem. Once again excellent service. The ladder rack is sturdy and looks great. It is also light weight. It can be removed and adjusted to different lengths. It's a wow. I did add some bolts to the rails for my own confidence that it is bolted to the truck bed. Two words....buy it.

by:

This Thule rack is one of only a few that fit the Tundra and it has worked out great for my needs, especially with the front extension piece. Installation was straight forward with no major issues doing it solo. A black anodized finish option to match the rails would be a nice feature to have available.

by:

Full disclosure: I haven't ACTUALLY installed the rack yet (although I've purchased one here before and it is FANTASTIC - hence my reordering another), but etrailer customer service alone deserves 5 stars! When I opened the initial package, it was clear that something wasn't right. I soon discovered that two small parts ($50 worth) integral to the installation of the rack were missing. I contacted etrailer and let them know and they sent replacement parts out to me right away no questions asked. They were incredible to work with yet again - another reason I will never look anywhere else for any truck/trailer parts I may need in the fuutre.

by:

I am happy with my Tracrac. I have a hard tonneau cover and carbon fiber bed. Had to use outside rails only for the folding tonneau cover. Also the bed is not quite square, so a close inspection will a visual difference
