Review of MaxxAir RV Vents and Fans MA00-04500K

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus. This is a trailer roof vent. It's going to feature a reversible variable speed fan that's going to allow you to precisely control air movement in and out of your RV. It's going to feature a 10 speed design, and it can be used as a ceiling fan. It will operate when the lid is in the closed position, which is really going to help circulate air inside your trailer. A few key features that I want to mention while we have the lid open. Is you're going to notice, right here, that it has a really nice rubber seal that goes around the perimeter of the opening.

That's going to do a great job at creating a tight, water tight seal with the lid closed. That's really going to help keep dirt and moisture out of this area here. This component right here is going to be the motor. This is a sealed, ball bearing motor. It's built to last a long time.

Right here is going to be a built in rain sensor. This is going to automatically detect moisture, and when it detects moisture it'll automatically turn the fan off and close the lid. If you open the lid manually, the rain sensor will not close the fan lid, so keep that in mind. This is going to be a smoke colored lid. Plastic construction. Knife drawn durable design.

It is translucent, so it will let some light in. It's also going to feature two lifting arms. That's going to provide sturdy support for the lid when it's open. It's really going to help withstand high winds without fluttering, and it can remain fully open while you're driving. I'm going to go ahead and close it, and then we'll go over some other features.

Now, this unit does feature an adjustable thermostat that's going to let you control the temperature inside your RV or trailer while you're away or sleeping. Ultimately, what that does is that helps save energy by running the fan no more than necessary. It is going to feature an automatic setting of 78 degrees, so you would push the thermostat button and hold that down to set it to that temperature. It can be adjusted in increments of 1 degree. Just follow the outline that's in the included instructions when it comes to adjusting that. I, also, want to point out that it comes with the interior trim piece or garnish, so this is included. It's going to give the inside a nice, clean finished look. I'm going to set that aside, so we can go over some more details about the fan itself. Now, one of the other things that you'll notice is that it is a nice low profile plastic dome. When it's in the fully closed position and installed on your application, it is only going to sit above the roof about 3 3/4". That's measuring from the bottom of the flange to the top of the dome right here. When it's in the fully open position, that's going to extend the opening to about 12 1/2" above the roof. That's going to extend the overall height about 12 1/2" above the roof. It's going to have the molded end, white plastic flange that's got your mount holes that's kind of punched. They're not all the way through, but it does indicate where to install your hardware. That's going to help prevent leaks. It's also going to feature a flush mounted keypad. That's this right here. It's very easy to access. It's very easy to use, and it's very easy to clean. It's going to come with a remote control. This is going to allow you to easily control all of the functions of the fan without actually having to reach up and push a button. The remote control's a nice feature. It's got a nice large display on it that's a digital display, and it's going to come with a wall cradle and hardware to get that installed. It's also going to come with the included batteries. It's going to feature a removable insect screen. That's just got these retaining knobs that you can just rotate out of the way to remove that. It allows for easier removal and easy cleaning. Again, that interior trim piece or garnish is included. It's also going to feature these waterproof, molded mounting tabs. These are going to allow for fast and tool free installation of a MaxxAir FanMate Vent Cover. If you want to do that, that is sold separately. Now, this is going to be a standard opening size, or it's going to fit into a standard vent opening size or fan opening size. It does make it really easy to replace or upgrade an old vent model or an old vent. It's going to come with all the necessary electrical connectors and hardware to get the unit fully installed. Now, this is designed to fit roofs with a thickness of 2" to 6 1/2" thick. If the roof is less than 2" thick, the sealing must be built up. It requires 12V DC and minimum of 5Amp service. When it comes to the fan specifications, the fan itself is going to give us a diameter of about 12". That's going to be a 10 blade design. The unit's designed to install into a roof opening of 14" x 14" or 14 1/4" x 14 1/4", right in that area. Again, everything that you need for the installation is included. It is a good idea to get some caulk or sealant to put around the flange, just to create a nice weather tight and water tight seal. The last thing that I want to mention is I just want to go ahead and go over the overall dimensions. We're just going to be taking a look at the length and width of the unit. If we're measuring here one point of the flange to the same point on the other side, outside edge to outside edge, we're looking at about 18 1/8". Then, if we take a look at the measurement that we have front to back, that's going to measure about 16 1/2". Again, right here you're going to notice it just has a sticker right here that it does have a rain sensor. You're going to have your control knob for manual adjustment. Then, you're going to have your keypad that's going to allow for automatic adjustment as well as the remote that allows you to control all the functions of the fan. You're going to have the ability to open and close. You're going to have the ability to control the rain sensor. You're going to have the ability to control the on and off function of the fan as well as the speed. This is the thermostat button, and then you're also going to have the ability to control the direction that the fan blades are spinning. That's going to do it for today's look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus Trailer Roof Vent.
