When the MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe # MA00-05301K is in the open position it sits above the roof 9-5/16" but when it is in the closed position it sits above the roof only 5".

We do have the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K which is at a similar price point but includes a thermostat and remote. The lift is also powered so you don't have to open and close the lid by hand. It can be operated using either the remote or the keypad on the vent. This vent only sits 3-3/4" high when it is closed so it will provide better clearance than the MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe # MA00-05301K. It doesn't have a built-in rain cover but it does have a rain sensor which closes the lid and shuts the fan off when it senses rain or snow. Once the rain or snow is gone and the sensor does not detect any more liquid then it will open the lid and turn the fan back on. The biggest difference between these fans is that the Deluxe can remain open while you are traveling but the Plus roof vent needs to remain closed unless you install a cover like the MaxxAir FanMate Rain Cover # MA00-955003 which would need to be removed prior to you parking your vehicle inside. The Plus includes the hardware needed to mount it but you will need sealant like the TremPro 644 Silicone Sealant # 0160297 to finish the job.

Is it possible to restrict how much the delux opens? IE if it was under racking, and you were ok with slightly restricting maximum airflow to have the power opener stop at say 8.0”?

@Jeffintd There isn't a way to restrict it, but since this is a manually operated lift you'll be able to stop it at whatever height you'd like.
