Can 175/80-13 Tires be Used to Replace 185/80-13 Tires in Emergency

Updated 07/23/2019 | Published 07/22/2019

Question:

I currently have 185/80-13 trailer tires. I can only find 175/80-13 in a rim/tire combo. If i have to use the different sized tire during a blow out situation will it be safe?

In an emergency situation you can use a ST175/80R13 tire like the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10210 if you have a blowout until you get to a repair shop to get the right size tire, but having different sized tires will lead to suspension problems if you do this permanently.

We do have ST185/80-13 tires and wheels such as the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire w/13" White Modular Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # AM3S333 and Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # AM3S334. These use wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern so if you have a different bolt pattern I highly recommend getting the proper tire size and wheel, just doing so separately.

For that, if you have a 4 on 4" bolt pattern you can use the Kenda Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10208 with the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 13" x 4-1/2" Rim - 4 on 4 - White Powder Coat # AM20222DX or Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 13" x 4-1/2" Rim - 4 on 4 - Galvanized # AM20224.

I have added links to video reviews for you as well as a link to a help article on how to determine your bolt pattern if you aren't sure of what you need.
