Eliminating Trailer Bounce When Towing And Using Weight Distribution System
Updated 05/04/2017 | Published 05/03/2017 >
Question:
I have a 30ft Keystone Travel Trailer dry weight 6150lbs GVWR is 7780lbs tounge weight 620 to 780. Im towing it with a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 with a 3:42 gear ratio. We left the RV dealership last week and noticed a little bounce in the rear of the tow vehicle. My question is the dealer put a Curt Trutrack weight distribution system on Model# c17501 15000lbs wasnt sure if that weight distribution setup was to ridged for the trailer?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Normally, the tongue weight should be somewhere between 10 and 15 percent of the loaded trailer weight. For your trailer it would mean somewhere between 780 and 1200-lbs.
The # C17501 system is designed for tongue weight between 1,000 and 1,500-lbs so it may be a little bigger than you really need. You can try shifting some weight in the trailer forward to add some tongue weight and that would help eliminate some of the bounce you are experiencing.
Also, make sure you are towing it as level as possible. You may need a different ball mount. I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to choose the right ball mount.
