Question:
I have a four cyl. 2002 Nissan Xterra. If I have a cargo carrier installed, will I have clearance to open the rear door? Thanks!

That depends on the cargo carrier and whether it is loaded or not. Many of the carriers will allow you to open the hatch when empty, but if you have a lot of stuff stacked on the carrier, your cargo may block the door.
Now, there are cargo carriers that slide out, tilt down or swing out to allow access to the rear door, even when loaded.
Check out the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y62VR or if you need even more space, the # Y74ZR.
This carrier uses a 2-inch, Class III or higher hitch. I have added a link to the Yakima EXO carriers below. Check the size of the hitch on your Xterra, you are looking for the inside dimensions of the square opening. if it is not a 2", let me know.
