Can Additional Turn Signals Be Installed on the Sides of a Trailer
Published 11/12/2014 >
Question:
Are there any DOT rules concerning turn signals on side of trailer? I have a 16inch and on top of my fender I have the red / amber single unit. This in on top of fender. My thinking is to mount a light on the wall also centered above the fender light as an additional turn signal light. Does that need to be amber or red? Go with the 4inch or 2

As far as turn signals go; that we are aware of there are no restrictions that would prevent you from installing an additional blinker on the side of your trailer in red or amber. You would need to consult your local DOT for more info, but I would be surprised if there were restrictions that would prevent that. Especially since semi-truck trailers often have them.
The easiest way to do this would be to use red lights since you could simply tap into the stop/turn circuit on either side of the trailer.
Something like the # MCL31RB would work great since it's an LED that will be very visible and won't draw much amperage.
I also attached an FAQ on trailer lighting requirements that you should find helpful.
