Question:
What material is the actual ring made out of? Could the ring be welded, to a 3/16 steel plate without using the bracket? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The CR Brophy # LRB1 features a zinc plated ring. I suppose the ring could be welded into place, but the only way the 2,750 lb WLL can be maintained is by installing it by bolting it into place, as the manufacturer intended. Installing it in any other manner would have an unknown effect on the weight bearing capacity of the D-Ring Tie Down. If you decide to attempt welding a zinc plated item, be sure to do so in a well-ventilated area, as galvanized or zinc plated items can give off toxic fumes when heated.
Curt offers a D-Ring that's intended to be welded into place, part # J-705. The D-Ring has a 6,000 lb WLL capacity.
