What's the difference between the Standard Torx Trailer Screw and the Torx ACQ Treated wood screw?

Updated 05/08/2026 | Published 05/03/2026

Question:

Im confused. One expert answer says this screw TFX225 is okay with pressure treated wood while another one says it is not and to only use the TFX225ACQ. Which is it. Could it be that one is just better than the other but the TFX225 will still work. What type of coating/finish does the TFX225 have.

Hey Ken, the confusion makes sense but I'll explain.

The Standard Torx Trailer Screw # TFX225 will work in pressure-treated wood, but it’s not rated for it and can corrode over time. The Torx Trailer Floor Screw for ACQ Treated Wood # TFX225ACQ has a coating specifically designed for treated lumber, so it’s the better and recommended choice.

The Standard Torx Trailer screw will work but it's not the best choice for long term.

What are you building in treated wood; deck boards, rails, fence, or a repair?
