Troubleshooting S.H or 5.H Error Code on a Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller part # 90885
Updated 09/29/2014 | Published 09/27/2014 >
Question:
I get an error code of 5.H or S.H. The digital readout is hard to decipher the difference in an S or an H. Page 3 of the Manual has codes but no probable cause or any information on what the code means.

The S.H or what looks like the 5.H code on a Tekonsha P2 brake controller part # 90885 like what you have indicates that the controller is detecting a short on the brake output circuit during idle (non-braking) conditions.
What this means is that somewhere between the brake controller and the brake assemblies there is a short on the brake output (blue) wire. Common causes for this problem are corrosion in the 7-way connector. Inspect your trailer connector and clean off any and all corrosion inside and behind the connector. Do the same thing for the connector on your trailer. If this does not fix the problem the next place to look is the wiring from the connector on your trailer to the brake assemblies. Check the wires for any cuts or exposed wire and fix as necessary.
