Question:
My Jayco Jayflight SLX has a GVWR of 3,500 lbs with a single axle rated for 3,500 lbs. Would the Timbren Axleless system rated for 5,200 lbs be sufficient to increase the trailers GVWR? Put another way: is the axle generally what limits the trailers carrying capacity?

Expert Reply:
A trailer axle is the most important factor in determining the trailer capacity but there can be other factors such as the suspension components, wheels and tires, and even the trailer frame itself. You would probably need to beef up the frame if you are adding a second axle or axle-less suspension system or replacing the axle with an axle-less system such as # ASR5200S01. And you would also need wheels and tires to match the higher capacity.
You would need to use hub # 8-213-5UC1-EZ with the above axle-less system. Then you would need a wheel and tire combo such as # AM32764 since the hub has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern.
Welding on additional supports to strengthen the frame should be done by a qualified professional welder, preferably one in a trailer repair shop or with experience working on trailers.
