Weight Distribution Hitch and Sway Control System for a 2006 GMC 3500 Sierra Dually
Question:
I have a 2006 GMC 4X4 3500 Crew Cab Pickup with Dual Rear Wheels. This pickup has a Duramax Diesel Engine and Allison 6-Speed Automatic Transmission. I plan to tow an 7000 lb Hi-Lo travel trailer with 750-800 lbs of tongue weight. Would a Weight Distribution Hitch and Sway Control System rated for a 12000 lb trailer and 1200 lbs of tongue weight be appropriate? Or, should a lighter Weight Distribution Hitch and Sway Control System be used for this set-up?

The only drawback to using a weight distribution system that is rated higher than the actual trailer tongue weight and gross trailer weight is that it can cause the ride to be a bit stiffer. With a tongue weight of 750 to 800 pounds a 1,200 lbs TW / 12,000 lbs GTW rated hitch would be the proper selection for this trailer. The Reese Trunnion Bar Strait-Line Hitch with Shank, item # RP66084, would be a good choice with tongue weight recommendation between 600 - 1200 lbs.
The only other item needed with this system would be a properly sized hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank.
