Am quite happy with eTrailer. Their website provides more detailed info than the manufacturer's! Getting ready for the summer boating season... Needed a longer hitch bar so could open tailgate with trailer hooked up. This was exactly as specified and works great. Have used eTrailer several times now and service has always been among the best...quick, accurate, and good prices.

by:

I called to get imformation about a weight distribution hitch. William B had all the knowledge I needed and helped me through the hitch with part numbers and measurements and we compared pictures on email and he found exactly what I wanted and ordered direct from him. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Very friendly. I will do business there again

I normally tow my vintage Airstream with a vintage, 3/4-ton Suburban whose 7.4l engine has quite the taste for mid-grade gasoline. Economics has forced me to consider towing with my wife's '09 Yukon which has an incredibly high receiver hitch. Etrailer had just the shank I needed (the black part in the picture) at a great price to make everything work. And it got here quickly. I'm now literally a happy camper.

by:

Needed this for my Reese SC weight distribution hitch. It was a necessity due to how low my 2012 jeep Srt8 and haulmark low hauler are to the ground. Great customer service and fast shipping.

by:

Worked great. The pictures show how the extra length that is given. In my case I needed 2 more mounting holes down. This one gave me 3. I needed after I moved to a 4 wheel drive truck.

by:

Found what I was looking for. Fast free shipping

Very Good worked out well

We bought a new pick up truck that sits 6" higher than our old truck. This draw bar has a greater drop than the old one and allowed me to use the rest of my weight distribution hitch.

After using the draw bar for a year with my 24 Haulmark Edge trailer, all is well. The trailer sits level, it tows great, the weight distribution system works as designed. Im happy.

by:

My trailer sits very low by design. When towing it tows with the tail down. Not a performance issue at all. But it looks funny. I needed to lower the ball 2 inches for it to look sharp when towing.

The Q and A at etrailer had a video showing all of the dimensions. This made my selection of this drop shank certain.

Product arrived in just a few days. thanks etrailer

The ped shank has worked perfectly. The trailer tows level reducing the amount of the trailer front surface from the wind resistance. But the best part is the trailer looks so sharp being towed level.I am looking forward to shopping a E-trailer in the future. Thanks

by:

This is a heavy shank that is needed for our trucks height. The bottom 2 bolt holes brings the ball to the right height for the camper which was riding to high on the previous shank. E-Trailer was very quick to ship as it only took 3 days from ordering to install. Very good company to shop with!

Its been 1 year on this hitch setup and a good one also. This hitch system is better performing than the friction sway control we had previously as it out performs the old system drastically. It actually wants to correct wind sway the way sway controls should! The only option I should have gone with is getting the 2-1/2 in shank instead of the 2 shank.

by:

The tongue of my trailer is pretty low so the standard shank wouldn't allow me to set my new hitch up properly. This shank was just what I needed.

by:

Exactly what I needed to get my truck and trailer level again after my new tire upgrade. Everything trailer comes from you guys.

As good as the day I wrote the review and as I stated everything trailer comes from etrailer. Just added a second sway control to my setup since we have a 26+ pull behind. Best company and service hands down.

After upgrading from a 1500 to 2500 Ram 4x4 I needed a shank with a six inch drop to use with my 49901 Pro Series distribution hitch. The RP63971provides enough drop and also moves the ball away from the bumper a little more allowing additional clearance for the tailgate when it is open. This shank is lighter than the one I replaced due to the U shape of the section where the ball mount bolts on. That's a plus, but because of the U shape you cannot use the angel adjustment rivet, washers and set screw that are used with the 49901 hitch to lock in the angel of the ball mount. I had concerns the tension on the bolts holding the ball mount on would not be enough to maintain the correct angle so I took a piece of 1/4" steel plate 6" long and slipped it in between the ball mount and shank. This provided a solid stop for the rivet and set screw.

by:

I purchased a new 2017 ford f250 to pull our 32 ft bumper pull camper. I noticed I had some trailer sway at highway speeds and the ball was just too high. I had no more adjustment on the shank I had. This one I purchased gave me extra adjustment and now the trailer tows perfect. The shipping was really fast. Also for pet owners now my tailgate can drop down so the dogs can jump into the back of the truck while the camper is hooked up

by:

Had to move my trailer hitch for my camper from my 2 wheel drive F150 to my new 4 wheel drive Ram 2500. This part was needed to get my camping trailer to run level. Perfect part for the job

by:

This one fit my trailer exactly as needed. The one I purchased just prior didn't have enough drop, my fault for not measuring things right.

Works great.

by:

When I switched to a bigger tow vehicle I needed a longer shank to increased the hitch drop another 2.25 inches to keep my trailer level. The detailed info on the product page gave me what I needed to know -
63971 would provide the drop I needed but would not be too long to cause bottoming-out concerns. After installation the hitch mount sits at the desired drop and still has 2 adjustment holes at the top of the shank and 1 at the bottom - perfect! Also, ET's price + shipping was very competitive and delivery was prompt.

by:

Unfortunately, etrailer sent the wrong size. Fortunately, they will send the correct size. I had originally called them and explained that my TT's tongue was too short and the TT was hitting & breaking my taillights. A nice person checked what I might need and said a longer shank would work--RP63971. Unfortunately it was not the correct information and the shank that I was told would work, was not the best one for my application. I found a shank that would appear to work better. etrailer will be sending that longer shank (EQ90-02-4500 when they get it at the end of November). The return guy understood what the problem was and said just return the one I didn't want. No hassle.

by:

This also replaces my hitch that was stolen which also was a Reese. This has enough drop for my Ram which sits pretty high. I have to say something about Etrailer. I deleted all my other trailer supply stores because these people are top notch in quality, prices, and shipping. From now on I'll order all I need here and I'll be in the market for a roof kit next summer. Guess who gets that order?

by:

Nice hunk of a shank! I needed to drop my ball height a couple of inches lower than stock and this was just the ticket. I could have saved a few bucks and gotten the welded up shank but I like the higher weight rating of this baby. A little more piece of mind when traveling down rough roads!

by:

I used this shank to pull a travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch that required a deep drop.

by:

I needed a shank that allowed a greater drop for my weight distribution hitch. Finding the right one was not easy. Paul was extremely patient and really helpful in finding one that would do the trick. The new one is perfect. No one has better service than etrailer.

by:

I have traveled about 5,000 miles with this shank and have had no issues. Tow a 30-foot travel trailer with a 2500 Duramax. The long extension and drop range are perfect.

by:

Did the job for my lifted truck. Those etrailer boys are are great. They’ll hook ya up on all ur trailer stuff.

by:

I needed a shank with a lower drop to accommodate a new 4x4 truck towing a camper. This fit the bill perfectly. I have not tried towing yet but I expect it to be successful.

by:

with a higher truck and a lower camper the hitch I was sold from the dealer did not work I bought this from E-trailer to fix my problem of the camper not being level. I expected to get this within 7 to 10 days and I had it in two I would highly recommend E-trailer to anyone and if I ever need anything for the trailer again I will be getting it through E-trailer.

  • Weight Distribution Setup for Trailer With Pole Tongue and Heavier Tongue Weight
We can only recommend Reese weight distribution systems for use with their pole tongue adapters, and based on the weight range of the # C17057 and the picture you sent in you'd want the higher rated pole tongue adapter part # RP58393 which is rated for up 1,400 lbs tongue weight. Then for a weight distribution system you'd want the # RP66131 which has a tongue weight range of 800 to 1,500 lbs. For a hitch ball you'd want the part # C40030 and for a shank part # RP63971 and you'd be set. Curt...

To determine exactly how much drop you would need out of a shank check out the FAQ article I attached that details exactly how this is determined. The current shank you have will give you at most a 2 inch drop. For an additional 4-1/2 inches of drop capability check out the Reese Weight Distribution Shank part # RP63971. This shank can do a total of 6-1/2 inches of drop and should work well for you. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also.

  • Will a Pro Series Weight Distribution Shank # RP63971 Replace a RP54970
Yes, the Pro Series Weight Distribution Shank part # RP63971 will fit your Pro Series system. Almost all of the weight distribution systems make their shanks to fit the standard size of holes that are 1-1/4 inch apart on center and are 3/4 inch in diameter. Yes, the Titan Weight Distribution Shank 8-1/4 inch Rise or 5-3/4 inch Drop, item # RP54977, will work with the hole spacing on Reese weight distribution heads. The standard hole spacing is 1-1/4 inches on center. The Reese # RP69FR is a welded together part. If you prefer a forged style shank, I suggest the Pro Series # RP63971. That being said, it does have 4 3/4 inches of drop, so it nearly matches the # RP69FR.
