ST205/75R15 vs ST225/75R15 Trailer Tires on Existing 15-Inch Wheels

Published 10/20/2026

Question:

Our camper has two 3,500-lb axles with ST205/75R15 Load Range C tires. The wheels are 15 x 6, and I'd like a little more tire capacity without replacing them. Would you stay with the same size in Load Range D or go up to ST225/75R15?

Hey Chris! I would stay with your current tire size and use the Kenda Karrier KR53 ST205/75R15 # KE85TJ. These Load Range D tires are rated for 2,200 lbs each at 70 psi, so you get additional tire capacity over your Load Range C tires without moving to a taller, wider size.

The ST225/75R15 Load Range E # KE65TJ is another option for a 15" x 6" wheel and is rated for 2,860 lbs at 80 psi. However, you need to check the extra height and width against your fenders, suspension, and spacing between the tires. For your 3,500 lb axles, I wouldn't make that size change just to gain capacity.

What camper are these going on?

It's a Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite. I think I'll stick with the 205s since we've never had any clearance issues, and I really just wanted a little extra capacity.

@Chris I think that's the right choice for your Rockwood. The Load Range D # KE85TJ gives you the extra capacity you're looking for without changing the tire dimensions. Enjoy your travels!
