Gooseneck Hitch for a 2027 Silverado 3500 Without Factory Prep That Can Also Tow 5th Wheel

Published 10/20/2026

Question:

My 2027 Silverado 3500 has an 8-foot bed and no factory hitch prep. I need to pull a gooseneck trailer now, but we may get a fifth wheel later. Is there something I can install that works for both without leaving rails in the bed? I already have the factory 7-way on the bumper.

Hey Travis, congratulations on the new truck! The B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1020 is the best option for your 2027 Silverado 3500. This fits your 8' bed without the factory prep package and includes the custom installation kit. The ball can be removed or flipped over and stored in the hitch when you need the bed for something other than towing.

When you're ready for a fifth wheel, the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W mounts in the same Turnoverball socket, so you won't have to add bed rails. I also recommend the Curt In-Bed 7-Way # C53CR. This plugs into your factory wiring and gives you a connection inside the bed while keeping your bumper connector usable.

What kind of trailer are you towing?

It's a gooseneck equipment trailer. We haul a skid steer and sometimes a compact tractor. I like that we can add the Companion later if we decide to get a fifth wheel camper.

@Travis that's exactly where the Turnoverball comes in handy! You'll have the gooseneck setup for your equipment trailer now, and if you get a fifth wheel later, you can add the Companion without changing anything underneath the bed. Good luck with the new truck!
