Question:
I have a Toyota Tacoma with a camper shell and a Class III 2-inch hitch. I'd like to move my full-size spare and shovel out of the bed to make more room for camping gear. I'm interested in the Kuat MOLLE hoop, but I'm starting from scratch. What parts would I need for a setup that swings out so I can still access the tailgate?

Hey Eric! I'd build your setup around the Kuat Accessory Hoop with MOLLE Panel and the Pivot XD. For the swing-away carrier, and panel you can choose from the following:
-Kuat Pivot XD Swing-Away Hitch Extender - Driver Side # KU69HR or Passenger Side # KU37KR
-Kuat Accessory Hoop with MOLLE Panel - Driver Side # KU769VR or Passenger Side # KU77KR
The Pivot locks open at 90 or 120 degrees, letting you move your spare and gear out of the way for tailgate access. It also includes a locking hitch pin and built-in anti-rattle system.
You'll also need a spare tire adapter, which bolts onto the hoop. You can choose from the following based on your wheel and tire's backspacing and the clearance needed for your gear:
-Kuat Pivot XD Spare Tire Adapter - 150 mm # KU97KR
-Kuat Pivot XD Spare Tire Adapter - 200 mm # KU47KR
-Kuat Pivot XD Spare Tire Adapter - 250 mm # KU67KR
To choose the depth, lay a straightedge across the inside sidewall of your spare tire and measure from the wheel's mounting surface to the straightedge. Choose an adapter deeper than that measurement, allowing additional room for anything mounted between the tire and MOLLE panel.
The tire adapter supports a wheel and tire up to 37" in diameter and 100 lbs, while the MOLLE panel supports up to 50 lbs of gear. Stay within your vehicle and hitch ratings, and check clearance around the tailgate when laying out your setup. If the standard Pivot safety pin interferes with your tailgate, the Low-Profile Safety Pin # KU67HR is available for additional clearance.
Any big camping trips coming up once you get it all set up?

We're planning a trip out to Moab next spring. Between the camping gear and recovery equipment, we're running out of room in the bed. I like that we can move the spare tire out of the way and still open the tailgate.
