Published 10/15/2026

Question:

I recently purchase a 2014 Jayco 264BH. The GVWR is 6,500 lbs. with a tongue weight of 485 lbs.. I am towing it with a 2018 Chevy 2500 passenger van with 6.0 liter. What are the recommended weight distribution hitches for this combination. Thanks

Hey Joseph.

Congrats on your new Jayco! With the info you gave me I recommend the Equal-i-zer WDH w/ 2" shank # EQ37100ET. This hitch requires a trailer with suitable bracket space 27"-32" behind the center of the coupler, with a frame no taller that 6" using the brackets. Typically tongue weight equates to roughly 10-15% of the GVWR of the towed vehicle. With this hitch supporting up to a 1000lb tongue weight, you will have plenty of breathing room once you have all of your belongings in the Jayco. Your tow vehicle has a maximum tongue weight of 1000lbs when paired with a WDH so I highly recommend once you get your Jayco loaded up, take a measurement of your tow ready tongue weight to ensure your tow vehicle, hitch, and WDH are all within their limits.

Where are you hoping to take your new Jayco on its first camping trip?

Will this hitch give me some sway control.

@JosephM Yes, it has built in 4-point sway control. It uses two friction points in the hitch head to resist sway in the trailer.
