Recommended Weigh Safe Weight Distribution System For Ember TT With 900 Lbs Of Tongue Weight
Updated 10/15/2026 | Published 10/14/2026 >
Question:
I have an Ember travel trailer, and they are tongue heavy. The GVWR is 6995, but at only 6000 lbs loaded the tongue weight is about 900 lbs. I am looking at the Weight safe middle weight. Do I want the 8500 or the 12500 arms

Welcome back, David!
With your tongue weight being around 900 pounds, I definitely recommend going with the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch - 2" Shank - 6" Drop - 12.5K GTW, 1.2K TW # WS94RR you were looking at. The 8,500 pound arms will not have enough support capability for your tongue weight.
When choosing a weight distribution system, you really want your loaded tongue weight to fall as close to the middle of the systems capacities as possible. This will give you the best performance out of the WD system. Too little and it won't do anything, too much will make your ride stiffer and can cause more sway problems. Weigh Safe doesn't list minimums for their tongue weight capacity, but you will fall in the 1.2K range for tongue weights and it will serve you very well!
I must admit to being a little surprised your tongue weight is that high on a 6,000 pound travel trailer. Are the water tanks on the front? Or is it just where everything gets stored?

Thank you for your response. I thought the 12500 would be too much for a lighter trailer. Yes, Embers are notoriously tongue heavy. They have a cargo compartment in the back where people can load up heavier items so I guess they account for that. My trailer completely empty other than two lithium batteries, 400 w. Solar and two propane tanks has a tongue weight of 801.
