Are The Timken 3,500 lb Axle Bearing Kits Sold As A Pair?

Updated 10/15/2026 | Published 10/12/2026

Question:

Regarding the Timkin 3500 lb axle bearing kit: Part Number: TMK52VR Is it available in a pair i.e. 1 axle set? The $58 price tag is a bit much for one spindle. But I dont want to buy less expensive brands as Im not sure of their quality. Thanks,

Hey George, welcome back! The Timken 3,500 lb Axle Bearing Kit # TMK52VR is only sold individually, so you'll need two kits to service both hubs on a single axle. I definitely understand the concern with the price, but Timken is known for making high-quality bearings, and these are made in the USA, so you're getting a dependable product from a manufacturer with a great reputation.

If you're looking for something you can install and feel confident about for years to come, I think the Timken kits are worth the extra money.

What trailer are you servicing?

Thanks Jesse, I plan to install the bearings and seals on a 2016 Tandem Axle Eagle Boat trailer (for a 21-1/2 Chaparral boat). The seal is equally important to me since the trailer is subject to water while launching. At the moment, the bearings feel fine, but they are 10 years old and I may just replace the seal out of precaution. Thanks for the feedback. George

@George Nice! Yes, the Timken seals are also made here in the USA. After 10 years, I think just replacing everything is a good call.

@JesseM I examined one of the 4 axle bearings and they are in great shape. They are the original bearings and ironically, were made China. I noticed that there was quite a bit of bearing preload from the axle nut. I've done a lot of automotive work and usually don't load them this much. Can you refer me to a torque or tightening spec on the 3500 lb axle nuts? I ordered new seals and will replace them and re-grease the bearings. Thanks George

@George Good question. So, the axle nut does not stay torqued. You will want to tighten it down at first to around 40-50 ft-lbs to seat the bearings. Then you back it off until the nut is loose. After that, you tighten it back down until you get a small amount of pressure and there is no play. Be careful not to over tighten at this step. Then get your cotter pin through and you'll be good to go.

I changed out my bearings and seals with these Timken kits. My RV was a couple of years of old but we were planning big trips and the quality of the oem bearings is only fair and the seals are poor. I wanted confidence in the bearings and being able to grease them with the EZ Lube fittings with out blowing out the rear seals. Mission accomplished

@GaryL Nice! Glad to hear the bearing swap worked out. Those US made Timken bearings definitely provide some peace of mind. Thanks for sharing!
