Can Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier Replace Factory Carrier on a 2008 Roadtrek 170?

Updated 10/14/2026 | Published 10/11/2026

Question:

My 2008 Roadtrek 170 has a receiver behind the drivers side rear door with a drop down spare. As I get older the spare is getting harder to lift. Can I replace the drop down with the Roadmaster?

Hey there!

Yes, the Roadmaster Spare Tire Mount # RM-195125 will be a great upgrade for your 2008 Roadtrek 170!

From your pictures, it looks like your current carrier mounts into a separate receiver on the driver's side. You should be able to remove that carrier and install the Roadmaster into that receiver or your main center hitch receiver instead.

You'll just need to confirm you have a standard 2" receiver and at least 5-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point of your rear bumper for clearance. I've attached a picture and it looks like you'll have plenty of room, but I always like to have people double check.

The Roadmaster also pivots down and uses a leverage handle to make raising and lowering your spare much easier, which sounds perfect for what you're wanting to accomplish! Better than your old one for sure.

Do you use the receiver for flat towing or bike racks etc.?

Great product. Installer on my camper . Makes removing spare and replacing flat very easy no lifting.
