Can an Andersen Rapid Hitch Increase Trailer-to-Bumper Clearance?

Question:

I have a 2023 Audi sq5 with air suspension and 2022 airstream caravel 16rb trailer. I am using an Anderson WD system that came with my used trailer. I am thinking might change to a conventional trailer shaft for my Audi to get to 2-3” distance between bumper and trailer ball. The shaft is too long and runs into facia when installing on closest pin hole. I also use an 8” height for trailer ball. I also like the 90 degree rise from the shaft. Any suggestions for replacement. Thx, John

Hey John, thanks for reaching out. Yes, switching to a standard ball mount like the Andersen Rapid Hitch # AM3460 can help give you more clearance between your Audi's bumper and the trailer. The main thing is comparing the distance from the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball on your current setup versus the new ball mount. The # AM3460 has two pin holes so it can be either 8-1/4" long or 9-3/4" long depending on which hitch pin hole you use.

Just keep in mind that switching to a regular ball mount means giving up the weight distribution and sway control of your current Andersen system.
