Thanks for letting us help David. We hear about this type of issue fairly often with trailers equipped with LED lights. Since LEDs draw considerably less power than traditional incandescent bulbs, some vehicles have trouble detecting that a trailer is connected. Many newer vehicles use a trailer lighting system that sends small electrical pulses through the wiring to check for a connected trailer. Because LED lights require so little power, these pulses can sometimes cause the lights to flicker or not operate correctly.
This can be resolved with an adapter designed specifically for LED trailer lighting. If your trailer has a standard 7-way RV-style connector, I'd recommend the 7-Way Trailer Adapter for Towing Trailers with LED Lights # C57003. This adapter has built-in resistors that help the vehicle recognize the trailer's LED lights by simulating the electrical load of traditional incandescent bulbs. If your trailer uses a 4-way flat connector, the 7-Way to 4-Way/5-Way Trailer Adapter # C35FR would be the appropriate option.
Does your Tesla have a 7 way trailer connector?

I purchased this adapter for the same reason. ( different vehicle . . .) It hasn't done it again since. Seems to have completely remedied the problem. The adapter is just plug and play. Plug the adapter in your vehicle and then the trailer harness into the adapter there you go.

I can't speak to your particular problem, but I use this adapter when we tow a Jeep Wrangler ('25) with a Leisure Travel Vans Unity RV ('25) built on a Mercedes 3500 chassis. The Mercedes computer won't recognize LED lights on the Jeep because of the lower resistance of the LEDs. This adapter solved the problem and the Jeep tail and turn lights work fine now. When the Jeep is attached and ready to go, we get a message on the Mercedes console display asking if we want to "optimize for towing?" adapter plugs into the wiring connector on the Unity and then we plug the coiled cable into the adapter.
