SwingKing Bolt-On Swing Tongue Kit Weight Capacity

Published 10/09/2026

Question:

I have a large pontoon boat trailer with 3000 lb capacity. Will this be strong enough for this trailer? The boat and equipment weigh close to 2700lbs. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for letting us help Ed. Yes, the SwingKing Bolt-On Swing Tongue Kit - 3" x 4" - Galvanized # TD53FR will be plenty strong for your pontoon boat trailer. The SwingKing is determined by the height and width of your trailer tongue and each kit has different weight capacitates. Another important consideration is the maximum allowable pivot length, which is the distance from the swing away hinge to the end of the trailer tongue. This also changes based on the specific kit and weight of the trailer.

SwingKing includes a chart in the installation instructions that outlines the maximum allowable pivot length for the 3" x 4" tongue kit at different trailer weights which I will attach.

Are you replacing an existing swing tongue kit or adding one for storage purposes?

I am installing new! Since chart does not go below 4000lbs it would be safe to say either 45” or 48” would be safe to use.

@EdS Correct. A shorter pivot length means less leverage on the trailer tongue but you would be fine to go as long as 48" if necessary.
