Can I Use Only the Center Mounting Holes on the Winch Mount Stand for My Dutton-Lainson Winch?

Updated 10/08/2026 | Published 10/06/2026

Question:

The winch is wider than the winch stand mounting platform on my boat trailer so I am only able to use the center mounting holes. Will that be adequate as that’s all I had to use on the previous winch. Thanks for any feedback. I am looking forward to the strength of this new wench as the old one was getting very worn out.

Hi Michael,

You should be okay using just the center mounting holes, but I would suggest using a backing plate or large fender washers on the underside of the winch stand mount. Definitely use new zinc or stainless-steel hardware as well so it will for sure handle the increased capacity. We do have a Universal Hand Winch Right Angle Mounting Bracket for Dutton-Lainson Winches part # DL24110 that can handle up to a 2,000lb capacity. So, if the winch is moving while you're using it or anything starts to bend/warp, I highly recommend using the universal bracket for safety.

How much does your boat or jet ski weigh that you're using the winch for?

Great feedback was definitely planning on new mounting bolts and washers. My 19’ Rinker Cuddy weighs 3000lbs.

@MichaelR Oh wow, it's got to be gorgeous up there! The Adirondacks are on my bucket list of places to visit.
