Hi Ron,

There was a refrigerant change in early 2025 so none of the air conditioners or components produced before 2025 are compatible with the new systems. You can still switch to a Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube, but you'll need to install a new thermostat for it since it won't be compatible with the Coleman thermostat.

The cool thing about the Furrion Chill Cube is that it comes with a temperature sensing remote so you can choose whether or not you want to install a wall thermostat. The remote acts as the thermostat and wherever it is in the camper it'll read the temperature and turn the AC on or off based on that reading. If you want a just the temperature sensing remotes the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube AC w/Heat Pump - Remote Only part # FR67TQ has the rooftop unit, remote, and air distribution box. If you want the remote and the wall thermostat, you'll need the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube AC w/Heat Pump - Remote & Thermostat part # FR59TQ.

What Coleman air conditioner are you replacing on your camper?

As Claire says, the thermostat goes with the Chill Cube. The Chill Cube is amazing because it has variable speed control, and the thermostat is providing a special message to the unit via a two wire connection (plus two more wires to power the thermostat). Or, as Claire says, you can just use the remote. Let me emphasize, if you ever get frustrated that the temperature where you are sitting is not the comfortable temperature you set at the thermostat, you can set the remote to be that sensor, and now the AC will respond to that temperature. Cool…..or hot…. But the big deal is the variable speed technology. More efficient means less time running at full speed, and that means less noise. It also means NO starting surge, because it starts with 150 Watts, vs 1500 Watts of a normal on/off AC unit. Much less stress on the electrical system, much less noise overall, and optional controls that follow you around. Also 18k BTU vs 13.5k BTU for typical units is keeping you cool on the hotter days. I run mine on an inverter so I can choose to run without a generator for a couple hours depending on the weather. I got an unexpected opportunity to try the heat pumps a couple weeks ago, and the air is actually hot, much warmer than my home heat pumps. A downside is the wires for your thermostat are likely in the overhead with your Coleman AC (I had Dometic so I am not sure of this for you). For the Chill Cube you need the two thermostat wires at the thermostat. I haven’t solved this problem yet so my furnace doesn’t have a control to turn it on and off yet. Basically I need to run wires either from the furnace or from the overhead existing wires down to the thermostat and I didn’t have time when I did the install myself in time to make this years big vacation.

@ErlingR Wow, sounds like you're really enjoying the Chill Cube! The quieter operation and ability to use the remote as a temperature sensor are definitely great features. Glad to hear the heat pump is working so well, too! Thanks for sharing all these details and your firsthand experience!
