Question:
My dealer said the hitch pin on the 2027 Toyota Landcruiser is longer than normal. Will the included hitch pin work in the Yakima Y62VR system? Is the hitch pin lockable or do I need a seperate locking pin? Do I need a hitch extender? The specifications information said only usable with a certain hitch extender, but didn’t say I needed a hitch extender. My vehicle is stock, and never used hitch. Thanks Gene

Thanks for letting us help Gene. On the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y62VR, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the EXO SwingBase is 4-1/4". To check your bumper clearance, measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your receiver to the rearmost point of the bumper. If that measurement is less than 4-1/4", you will have enough clearance and won't need an extender. If the bumper extends more than 4-1/4" from the hitch pin hole, the SwingBase would contact the bumper before it is fully inserted. In that case, you'll need the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension # Y69VR. This is the only hitch extension Yakima approves for use with the EXO system.
As for the hitch pin, Toyota's factory 2" receivers use a double-wall design, which makes the receiver wider at the hitch pin hole than a typical 2" receiver. This does affect fitment of hitch mounted accessories. The threaded anti-rattle hitch pin included with the # Y62VR has a 3-1/2" usable span and includes a lock. You'll want to measure the total outside width of the receiver at the hitch pin hole. If that measurement is close to or greater than 3-1/2", the included pin will not be able to span the receiver. Unfortunately, we don't carry a longer hitch pin specifically for the EXO system. Yakima does offer a longer replacement under part number 8881759, which you would need to purchase directly from Yakima.
If you have any additional questions, please reply to this thread. Congratulations on the new car by the way! I see you've been looking at a few different cargo options. Do you have a trip planned?
