Does The Curt Echo # C51180 Need to be Oriented in a Specific Way?

Updated 10/01/2026 | Published 09/30/2026

Question:

Wondering if the CURT controller needs to be oriented with the cover on top. In way of explanation - I installed my 7-pin plug in upside down so the cover folds down instead of up to clear the bumper. If the CURT is plugged in upside down so the cover folds down will this affect operation?

Hey Alec.

There is no specific orientation required to use the Curt Echo # C51180. It uses a three-axis motion sensor and automatically calibrates, rather than needing a specific orientation. Just ensure he's fully seated into the 7-way and secured and you're good to go.

How has the Echo treated you so far?

Thanks Trent! Actually haven’t purchased/used it yet. Next on my list of things to order from you! Going to be doing a little rewiring and hope to test things out this fall or next spring (because - you know - schedules….)
