Can Spring Bars Be Replaced On Fastway e2 For Different Trailers

Updated 09/21/2026 | Published 09/17/2026

Question:

On a Fastway e2 weight distribution hitch. Can i just change the bars and use it for a different weight trailer. Go from a 10000gvw bar to a 8000gvw bar and use the same hitch head ?

Hey Ralph, welcome back! Yes, you can sway out your spring bars so the Fastway e2 system is properly rated for a different trailer. Assuming you want to make it the 8k GTW system, you need the # FA94-02-0899 if you have the round bars and # FA92-02-0899 for the trunnion.

What trailer are you towing?

Would it hurt to leave the larger bar on it even with the smaller gvw trailer. I guess the ride would be different along with anything else? Thanks

@RalphR it wouldn't necessarily hurt, but it could cause a rough ride and bouncy trailer.

You sure can, that is exactly what I did. You’ll need to readjust the hitch head angle for the lighter bars per the instructions provided with the hitch or on lime videos.

@RichardB good point. The system should definitely be readjusted after changing the spring bars to make sure everything is set up correctly for the new trailer.

Yes, I swapped-out the 6,000lb bars for 8,000lb when I bought a bigger trailer.

@Davea perfect example of why having interchangeable spring bars is so handy. Thanks for sharing!
