Troubleshooting MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent Fan Not Spinning

I have the maxxfan maxxair deluxe on my camper variable speed fan with remote. It was working fine on a very low speed last night. It got cool so I turned it off. Now the fan does not work at all either trying ti control via the remote or via the controls on the fan. How can I tell if this is a motor or circuit board issue? The remote will open and close the lid. Auto setting doesn’t activate the fan either.

Hi Beth,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent part # MA00-07500K!
Since the lid is still opening and closing, it sounds like it's still receiving enough power to control the lid. Try testing how much power is coming in with a wire tester when trying to operate the fan. If it's less than 12V there could be an issue with the ground or weak power and that's why the motor's not starting.
You can also see if it's the motor by spinning the fan's blades by hand when the power is disconnected. If it's stiff, binding, or difficult to turn it's likely the motor having issues. If the vent is connected to power and you push the fan blade and it starts running again that also indicates that the motor is failing.
To tell if it's the circuit board, disconnect the motor from the circuit board and apply 12V power and ground directly to the motor. If the motor doesn't run, it's a bad motor. If the motor does run, then it's the circuit board causing the issue. If you need a replacement motor, the correct one for this model vent fan is the Replacement 12-Volt Variable Speed Fan Motor for MaxxAir MaxxFan RV Roof Vents Part # MA10-20968. If you need a replacement circuit board, the correct one is the Replacement Printed Circuit Board for MaxxAir Powered Lift RV Roof Vents w/ Reversible Fan Part # MA10A21275K.

I’ve had good luck with mine but I also noticed that folks were having trouble with moisture getting on the circuit board. Before installation, I bought some “conformal acrylic coating” and sealed the circuit board with it, per recommendation of others. Apparently the board can collect moisture from humidity/condensation and quit working in some situations.

By chance is it the “deluxe” with the temperature control? You said it was cool out, is it by chance set to high temp and that’s why it won’t turn on now? We have two of these in our unit.
