Welcome back Brad! To install a brake controller in a 2004 Dodge Dakota, I recommend the Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer w/ Custom Harness item # C43GV. This brake controller includes a custom fit harness that plugs directly into the factory tow port that's right above the emergency brake pedal.
The Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer item # C43GV is a proportional brake controller that slows or stops your trailer with the same amount of force you're using to slow or stop your Dakota. It works with standard electric brakes, electric over hydraulic brakes, and trailers with up to four axles. It also doesn't have to be mounted at a specific angle so it stays out of the way.
Please note that the custom harness included with the Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer item # C43GV will only work if your Dakota came with a 7-way connector and/or the factory tow package. If you truck does not have either you'll need the following parts:
Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller item # C24VV
Universal Wiring Adapter for Curt Trailer Brake Controllers item # C51515
What kind of trailer are you pulling and what's it used for? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.
