Hey Cameron!

You’re on the right track. For your 1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ, the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1418-1 will work with your Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar when paired with the Replacement Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly # 910021-00.

The # 1418-1 is custom-fit for your Cherokee, so you won’t have to drill into the Jeep’s frame for installation. Some fascia trimming will be required, and if your Cherokee has factory tow hooks, those will need to be removed and cannot be reinstalled with the base plate in place.

For the lighting, your Nighthawk may already have the 7-way-to-6-way umbilical cord. If it does, you can use the RV Designer 6-Way Socket and Boot # RD38SR along with the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit # RM-154 to tie the Jeep’s tail lights into your motorhome’s lighting system.

If you don’t already have the umbilical cord, I’d go with the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15247 instead. That gives you the wiring components and cord needed to make the connection between the motorhome and Cherokee.

Do you already have a supplemental braking system and breakaway setup for the Jeep, or do you still need those pieces as well?

Hey Cameron. Im relatively novice auto DIY'er and I was able to install this on my own. If I had a car lift, it would have been even easier. Everything matched up well, no mods. I have a 2012 jeep liberty. After installation, regular usage is easy as well.

@RickM Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad your install was so simple. Have you taken the Jeep Liberty anywhere fun recently?

The cross bar is super easy to use. I just throw it under the motorhome when I’m not towing. I would buy it again if needed.

@BruceK That's great advice, thanks for commenting! What kind of vehicle are you towing behind your coach?

@JerryB I’m towing a 2011 Mini Cooper JCW. Just shift to neutral and release the parking brake after hookup.

@BruceK Nice! Thanks for your reply. Do you have any projects or preparation that you're working on with the Mini or your coach?
