Replacement for TDE LP7000 On Boat Trailer With 3-1/2" Wide Trailer Tongue

Updated 08/27/2026 | Published 08/22/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a surge break on my boat trailer that needs to be replaced. It currently has the TDE model LP7000 which I understand is no longer available. The outside measurement of my trailer tounge is 3 1/2” wide by 4 1/2” tall. What are my replacement options for this trailer? Thank you in advance.

Hey Jeremy! The Dexter DX7.5L A-60L like # DX27FR you were looking at is a good replacement for your old TDE LP7000. However, if you want to install this on top of the trailer tongue you will have to use one of the weld on models. For drum brakes you would need # DX53FR and for disc brakes # DX49FR. We don't have any bolt-on options that will fit a 3-1/2" wide tongue.

Is the TDE actuator integrated into your trailer tongue? You might be able to fit the inner member in there, but it would take modification for it to fit properly and work as intended. Another option is to cut that off and replace the tongue where the old actuator was located. This would allow you to change the size to 3" and bolt on the # DX27FR.

What kind of boat are you hauling?
