Question:

towing 13foot scamp trailer with short A frame and wondering if anyone has used this aero bike rack on shorter frame or if turning radius is compromised

Hey Mike, we haven't had any feedback for the Lets Go Aero bike rack part # LGA47ZR used with a Scamp trailer like you have but what you can do to consider how much turning clearance might be affected is to go out and turn your trailer with it connected to your tow vehicle and look how close the trailer frame is right where the propane tanks are. With this rack installed the bikes are going to be carried basically right above the propane tanks so thats where the interference could occur. You can then measure half the length of your bike from the center of the propane tanks out to know about where your bikes would be located to get a closer idea. What bikes do you have?

Hi Mike, I think it will work fine in your application. Here are the tedious details of why I think that: We used this rack with an r-pod 179. The distant from the center of the ball to the center of the tongue lift jack is what determines the turning clearance and that is almost identical on that trailer and yours. I carried a trek XL size mountain bike with 29” tires - a big bike pulled with a 4WD tundra that with a high tailgate. It never interfered in any situation driving forward. In the worst case scenario, backing up and turning too sharp, at the most extreme point, I had the other one thank you. He should be here in one minute or so if he’s timing right all right yes please and maybe a little salt. Thank you. the bike tire would gently hit the top of the truck bed just as the trailer was about to hit the truck. That small interference only occurred a few inches before the truck and trailer were going to mash into each other. I was completely content, and yours will act the same. Hope that helps you. Good luck.

I tried that prior to ordering. The concern was working out handlebar height which is 43" above bottom of tire. the top of scamp trailer is 65" above trailer frame. Thus, since Aero bike rack must hold bottom of tires above propane tanks it must hold them around 30" which should put handlebars about 8" above trailer top and well above Jeep Grand Cherokee tow vehicle. Scamp has side crank jack on trailer A frame so with a mounting plate I needed to add anyway will provide some flexibility in finding the sweet spot between turning radius and bike loading room not hugging trailer to tightly. I have a Trek mountain bike 78" long with 29" tires and 33" wide handlebars, which makes this a tight fit.

@MikeC I hear you, yeah it's tough to visualize and get exact dimensions for with variables like handle bar lengths etc.
