Hey Michael!

We may have an option for your 2002 International/Blue Bird bus, but there are a couple of things to consider since these rooftop air conditioners are designed for RV applications rather than school buses.

The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump and Ceiling Assembly # FR77TQ would be one of the better choices for a space this large. It provides up to 18,000 BTUs of cooling, has variable-speed operation to help keep noise down, and includes a heat pump for supplemental heat in cooler weather.

The biggest installation concern will be the roof. This system is designed to mount in a standard 14" x 14" opening and requires sufficient roof thickness for the ceiling assembly. Bus roofs are typically much thinner than an RV roof, so some custom framing or reinforcement may be necessary. We've heard of bus conversions using a framed structure around the opening to provide the needed thickness and support, but that would be a custom installation rather than a direct-fit application.

You'll also want to keep the power requirements in mind. This is a 120V AC-powered unit, so it won't run directly from the bus's 12V electrical system while you're driving. You would need an appropriately sized inverter/battery system or a generator capable of powering the air conditioner whenever the bus is on the road.

For installation, our Installer Locator can help you find shops in your area, although I'd recommend contacting the installer beforehand to make sure they're comfortable with a custom bus roof installation. I've linked the Installeer Locator below for you.

Do you already have a generator or inverter system on the bus for 120V power while you're driving, or would you need help figuring out that part of the setup as well?
