Question:
etrailer etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 1-1/4 Hitches - Flush - 2-1/8 Span - Chrome Part Number: e98879 Short question: will this item work in a 2” receiver? Or do you have a similar product with a 1/2” pin diameter in your keyed alike line? Background: I have a 2” factory receiver on my vehicles. I’m considering getting a Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack. The Kuat uses a 1/2” pin to secure it in a 2” receiver. I have several of your keyed alike products already and would like to avoid carrying or keeping track of yet another key. Hence my question. My key is numbered “010” Thanks!!!

Hi Irv,
The etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 1 1/4" Hitches part # e98879 will not work for your 2" trailer hitch. The pin is only 2 1/8" long which isn't long enough to fit through a 2" hitch receiver. Unfortunately, there aren't any etrailer branded hitch locks that are 1/2" in diameter that are intended for 2" hitches, they're all 5.8" in diameter.
Your best bet is to use the Tow Smart Hitch Receiver Lock part # TS24VR. The # TS24VR is 1/2" diameter like what you need and is 2 3/4" long so it can fit through most 2" hitches. This pin uniquely fits 1 1/4" and 2" hitches, so it'll also come with a sleeve that is removeable that makes it 5/8" for use with other accessories. However, this pin is not able to be ordered keyed alike, so you would have another set of keys to keep track of.
What is the length of the hitch pin you use with your bike rack currently? Some Toyota OEM hitches have thicker walls that require a longer hitch pin to reach all the way through. If your current pin is longer than the 2 3/4" by far, the Tow Smart pin may be too short for you to use.
