Question:
I want to upgrade my manual awning to an electric one. But I’m not sure which unit to buy. My current 17’ awning which is on my 2009 Fleetwood bounder is a Dometic model 884EE17.001u.

Hello Brian,
Thanks for writing in.
The good news is you don’t have to replace your entire 17' awning just to get electric operation. Since you have a Dometic manual awning on your 2009 Fleetwood Bounder, you can swap out the manual arms for a Solera 12V Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit and keep your existing roller tube and fabric.
You’ve got two color options depending on what will look best on your Bounder. The Solera 12V Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit with 69" white arms is part # LC434724, or you can go with the same setup in black with part # LC434723. These kits are made to convert Dometic manual awnings to 12V electric operation, so there’s no need to hunt down an entirely new 17' awning assembly just to get the push-button convenience you’re after (please see attached image).
The main thing to keep in mind with the conversion is that you’ll need a 12V power source for the new powered arms. I’d also give the mounting area a quick once-over before you start tearing into anything, just to make sure there isn’t anything on the side of the Bounder that could interfere with the new arms.
Getting things geared up for a final summer adventure, where are you headed to next?

My 2006 holiday rambler admiral came with an electric awning setup but a previous owner, after getting some bad advise from his rv maintenance man, replaced it with a manual awning. Scared away by the cost of replacing everything to an electric system, I accidently found this manual conversion kit at etrailer. I had a new awning and after watching the conversion videos on etrailer I decided I could do this myself, which I easily did and only for about 700 dollars. It was easier because i used the existing power lines and switches that were left in place. But still it would not have been that bad installing those also. These electric arms make life so much better and it's great just putting it out and retracting it. Use the awning a lot more now also. Maybe the best 700 I ever spent.

My awning mounts both below and above the drip edge so I do have an obstacle to overcome. My current awning has a spacer to accommodate for the drip edge. Can I use the old spacer? If not, is there something else available to fill the space?
