Question:
Can you confirm your part Part Number: AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-2K Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 10 to 12- 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased comes with bearings already packed with bearing grease, so no additional bearing grease is necessary? Arent you supposed to apply a thin layer bearing grease to the axle spindle before you slip the hub on? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim, yes, the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly, part # AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-1K, comes pre greased with the bearings already packed, so you don’t need to pack the bearings with additional grease before installation. You are also correct about the spindle, though. I would still put a light coating of clean bearing grease on the spindle before sliding the hub into place.
That little bit of grease on the spindle helps everything slide together smoothly and provides some protection against corrosion. You can use the Dexter Multipurpose High Temperature Lithium Grease, part # DX37VC, for that. Just a thin coating is all you need since the bearings themselves are already packed and ready to go.
Are you replacing both hubs on the trailer while you’ve got everything apart, Jim?
