Question:

Hello. I keep getting conflicting reports whether you can flat tow a 2022 Chevy Traverse. I learned that in the original owners manual GM said no. And others said Chevy made a revision a few months later, saying that you can. I see that etrailer shows a Roadmaster Base Plate for it RM65MR. So I assuming if etrailer sells a base plate for it, it’s flat towable. Just need to know before I buy. If it is flat towable, can you advise or direct me to finding out the procedure for flat towing a 2022 Traverse AWD, such as fuses, battery disconnects, and so on. Can’t find that info anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Randy. The 2022 Chevy Traverse can indeed be flat towed. GM issued the technical service bulletin PIT5890 that corrected the original misinformation in the owner's manual and detailed the setup process.

To flat tow your 2022 Chevy Traverse, you'll the following parts:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar item # e94ZR. This baseplate works with or without the Active Aero Shutters.

Base Plate Kit - etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit item # e36GV

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Battery Disconnect - Roadmaster Battery Ace Battery Disconnect w/ Key Fobs item # RM39ZT

Supplemental Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # DM86VR or item # SM99243 if your motorhome has air brakes.

Charge Line - Towed Vehicle Battery Charge Line Kit for Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking Systems item # DM66VR. This is the easiest and least expensive way to add the required charge line because it routes through the item # DM86VR or item # SM99243 braking systems.
