Question:
I have a 2011 Ford Ranger which I want to tow behind a 1989 Lazy Days motorhome....it has a 2inch trailer hitch. The Ford has a whole lot of plastic up front. Not sure how these base plates hook up or work on every vehicle front end or if you need a vehicle specific design?? Can I do what I desire here with the Ford Ranger?

You will need a custom base plate kit designed specifically to work on your 2011 Ford Ranger. If you have 4WD model or a Sport 2WD model you would want the Roadmaster Base Plate kit part # 477-1. If you have an XL or XLT 2WD model you would want the part # 477-5.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-154 to activate the turn signals of your Ranger with the RV's.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
